780 6GB vs 970

Any opinions? I've been weighing up whether to buy a 970 or a 390. The 8GB on the 390 is certainly a big selling point but have just seen the 6GB 780 on offer and wondering whether it can compete with the others?

The 780 is still a good card for 1080p but the 970 is faster and uses less power

The 970 would be my choice personally.

Helps to know what res you'll be gaming at?

the 970 beats the 780 for performance (or should I say they trade blows) but the extra VRAM would help with higher resolutions. That said i;m not sure how good the 780s are at anything above 1080

The added Vram of the 780 won't make a difference as the card doesn't have enough grunt to saturate it anyhow.

The 390 would be my choice. It has the performance of a gtx970 and the extra vram of the 6gb.

Forget the 780. Both the 390 and 970 are much better.

+1 for 390 for reasons mentioned above.

Thanks for the responses. I game at 1920x1200. Seems like it's still a decision between the 390 & 970.

Either one. The Vram doesn't matter at all with those cards (unless you go CF/SLI and use an higher resolution).

I was going to say make a decision based on whether you want access to the Nvidia gameworks features but that's kind of a moot point as well seeing as the performance hit means you'll usually be turning them off to keep the fps up anyway. I suppose I'd opt for a decent 390 like the Sapphire in the hope that it pulls ahead more in DX12 titles down the road. You may also find that the additional ram does help in a couple of years if you'll have it that long.
