Just wondered if these are going to come down a bit, what with this new AMD card?

The reference cooler version I have my eye on (EVGA) is £500 at the minute, just wondering if I should hang on and if so for how long?

And yes, I know the 290x is great VFM, but I am a SFF gamer and with it's noise and heat it's just not a realistic option, looking at the noise and heat figures for the 780 makes it the ideal sweet spot for my needs.

On the 28th (this Monday) nviida are meant to be giving 3 free games with a GTX 780....;)

See here for details http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/ar...day-bundle-featuring-heroes-pirates-and-spies

From October 28th until November 26th, buyers of the GeForce GTX 770, 780, and TITAN, will receive free downloadable copies of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins, and Splinter Cell Blacklist from participating retailers and e-tailers

So hang on a few days and see what happens...

I think they'll start with some free games from the 28th but prices stay the same then once the 780Ti is release they'll drop. I don't think they'll come down as far as people expect. Personally can see them coming in between £400 and £425 ish to match the cheapest 290X's perhaps then the Ti's starting at £500-525.

hopefully massive price drop to compete with the 290x soon, I sure hope someone tweets or post Nvidia the 7990 price of £399.99 and 290x price of £429.99.

Someone @ Nvidia must go click ;)

nVidia dont need to price drop when AMD does every little thing. They sell no matter what. Once they have managed to stop belly laughing over the heat and noise and awful overclocking capabilities of the latest AMD cards they may drop the price if THEY feel the need.

A hell of a lot of people want nVidia cards but want them for the price they want to pay. I want a Ferarri for £399.99

Well not me, I'm not asking for the moon on a stick, but I'd be pretty pi55ed if I spunked £500 on a card only for it to be dropped in price a few weeks later, which is why I asked.

Even if it's only £30-40, that's enough.

The 3 free games are designed to sway buyers but lets face it AMD 290X has it on price/performance

Nvidia need to take at least £100 off the 780's minimum. Savvy prospective buyers like me know the nextgen will favour AMD/GCN heavily why blow your wad on the past (which Nvidia is in danger of becoming now they are out of the PS4/XB1 contracts).

Nvidia will no doubt react when sales drop but in the next few weeks they also have the heavily sponsored COD Ghosts & AC4 as well as Batman Origins so will wait & see what the numbers are after those 3 games have launched but within the next 4-5 weeks expect Nvidia to have to knock prices heavily to avoid going into the chinese new year with too much channel stock ;)

It's funny watching people here preach about what nvidia should do with their prices. They have a marketing team in place who monitor sales, they aren't going to drop prices if their cards are selling well. Look at last gen the 680's considerably higher priced than the 7970 but they didn't drop the price as guess what? Yeah that's right they still sold.

Ok... but if your spending £500 on a card are you really that worried over £30-£40 ?

Imo, you'll always be waiting and wondering about what if's on price drops and the weeks will continue to roll by. Regardless, you are buying a top card, enjoy it and pay no attention to price drops after you have bought it as it happens to everyone.

780 prices starting to creep down (I've spent the last 2 days scouring the web) - including some of the super clockers.

If you price an aftermarket cooler onto the base R9 290X - the 780s don't have to drop much further before it becomes a very difficult choice, since performance in most games is within a few fps (at the moment, given early drivers and unknown mantle performance).

Since it's going to be a couple of weeks before most of the 290X hits the shelves, will be interesting to see what the state of play is then.

Which is annoying me because i have 450 burning a whole in my credit card :(

Err, yeah, £30-40 is a lot, it's nearly 10%, and if the £400 figures are to be believed then £100 is certainly worth waiting for.
