780 hotter than normal?

I know, but what would you do in my position? I haven't been having the best luck with any of this lately. So I'm scared to make a move lol.

I was already thinking of stepping up before my 90 days was up. So I'm thinking just deal with the heat issues while I wait in the queue for the 980 ACX 2.0.

Clearly you're not having much luck with the 780s.

Use the step up plan and go with the 980. Faster card with more Vram.

Thanks for the advice guys. I went ahead and applied for the step up.

So hopefully soon I'll have a shiny 980 ACX 2.0 :D

Really? My 780 reference died, i was sent 3 replacements, which all had signs of use, and they said they were all in fact, repaired units. The 4th arrivied in a sealed box, but the card itself had scratches and signs of use.

could have just be the chip running hotter. No chip is identical. With 100% fan speed and 78c, i would call it a defect. Ask in the EVGA thread, sounds dodgy.

Hi, can you let me know more detailes about your RMA? When you receive a brand new sealed card from us it should be a brand new sealed card, and also so many RMAs do not sound normal to ma and I would like to review your case to see what we can improve at that end. You can send me the information to [email protected]

is the fan set to auto profile and then reach 100% during run or do you set it manually from scratch to 100%? The most improtant question, which clocks is your card running? Have you already tried to apply high quality thermal paste on the card and run custom fan profiles? If you are working with overvoltage I would highly recommend this! Did you already proof if the card will run with less temps when you have your case opened? Are you able to post a picture of your setup?

I have a custom fan profile set.

When it was hitting 85c in BF4 I was running 1280/1702 @ 1.25v. It still gets to over 80c when I have the voltage down to 1.2v.

My other Classies, while faulty never broke 74c. With the same, or higher voltage than this card. I still stayed below 80c even doing 1.3v bench runs.

My case is an Antec 1200. While not the greatest case, it still has really nice airflow. I had overclocked SLI Gigabyte WF3 770s in this rig for almost a year. The top card never went above 80c.

In this case it would be good if you could try to replace the TIM on the GPU, should normally not be needed but in very rare cases I have seen it can be little bit too thick on it. Can you let me know how you have set the custom fan profile? Screenshot if possible

Yeah that's not right! my twin 670's only just reach 80c on the top card, after intense gaming in summer for a few hours. bottom can hit 70-75c in that situation. Fan speed: 65% @ 70c, 70%@80c. pretty quiet by all respects.

both overclocked to 1202/7008 @ 1.25v
