780 now or wait for 880?

End of the year or early next year. Just buy a second hand 290 then sell it and upgrade at the end of the year. That's my plan at least (well I bought the card new on a good deal).

Go for the 780, there are some great prices about.

Realistically the 8 series will not be here for ages, and when it is it will be the same story as the 7 series launch, sky high prices to milk the folk with more money than sense.

I game on a 1400 monitor and my upgrade path has been like so :-

Started with 670, new 1400 monitor destroyed this card

780's came out but I wouldnt pay £550 so decided on another 670 for SLI at a bargin price.

780ti came out and decided to treat myself as I was annoyed some games wouldnt work with SLI. When I tested the 780ti I was shocked to see it performed significantly worse than my SLI. So bye bye ti, welcome back 670 SLI.

Now my 670's are starting to struggle (I play everything maxed and accept no less than 60fps) hitting vram limit. So I just picked up 2 780's at £360 a piece, and confident I can sell my 670s at a decent price. Pretty sure this 780 SLI setup will do for another few years and skip the 8 series.

I am in the same position. Still using my GTX 670 on my monitor and not sure what to do! I can't see new high ends coming out till end of the year.

I think we will see 880 sooner than we think, maybe even computex 2014? Once rumours start getting more frequent it usually means its not that far off!

I say buy now. High-end Maxwell 2015 at the earliest.

I reckon this too. I also think the 'true' 780/ Ti successor might not be the massive leap people are hoping for from maxwell, so just buy now I would say.

This is all speculation obviously. It might might be twice as powerful, and make cups of tea, who knows :)

I recently got an evga 780 after hearing the news about maxwell next year which sounds pretty certain. I've gone up from a 670 recently and although the difference isn't significant in real world it's certainly obvious so happy with the purchase.

I'd say go 780 and hold onto it while the 880 drops in price after release then swap them out
