Both about £400 but I can't decide on which one. Would duel 7970s be better than a 7990 also does the 7990 have microstutter or any other issues etc.

Thanks

7990 is going to be around 30-40% quicker when both are overclocked. At stock the gap will be wider, around 50%. That assumes decent crossfire scaling... if not then the gap is smaller.

Crossfire is good nowadays so no worries there about microstutter. It's still present but it's not perceivable to 99% of people now.

The 780 offers superb single card performance and is going to be quieter than a 7990 though the gap here isn't huge. Have a look at the unique features of the two brands as well.

nVidia has native 3D support, PhysX, Gsync and TXAA support
AMD has Mantle which although unknown is an exciting prospect

Two 7970s will cost you a good £600 these days. Two 280Xs would be cheaper (and better than a 7990) but still around £500.

TXAA is a feature? :)

The 7990 (£500 at the moment) wins hands down on performance, but obviously a single GPU makes things a bit simpler, as some games won't have perfect support for Crossfire or SLI. Also the option of 780 SLI down the line may be more appealing, though a lot more expensive.

I'd be more inclined to wait for non-reference 290s and get two of those. You'd have far higher performance than a 7990, as well as TrueAudio and more memory. Mantle comes either way.

If the 7990 drops down to £400 again then it'd be very tempting.

I recently picked up a reference 7990 for £420. Don't regret it a bit. Amazing FPS/£, and honestly it's very smooth. Even if it had been so cheap before, I wouldn't have considered it prior to the newer drivers.

It runs fairly cool even in my small FT03 case.

As good as a 780
is it holds no no real competition for a 7990 as long as you dont feel a desperate need for the features Nvidia has to offer. Personally i think mantle is more exciting of a feature than those offered by Nvidia.

If you want performance its 7990 7990 all the way

I'll give you some feedback on the 7990 today and tomorrow when mine arrives and i give it some real world testing and benchmarking.

I went from a single 480GTX to 480SLI, but before i went SLI i was worried about all the issues i was hearing about SLI problems, Microstutter, heat and noise etc. Maybe i was lucky but didn't notice any of it or haver any problems with any of the games i played.

I have ran 480s in Sli for the last 2-3 years and been really happy with my cards and Nvidia, so my dilemma came when i saw the XFX HD7990 @£371 OMG................

My concerns were.....

Are AMD cards going to be as good as Nvidia cards?
Are AMD drivers any good?
Will i miss Physx?
Will heat and noise be an issue?
Will the HD7990 have microstutter.............. and why the hell is it so so cheap if it's the fastest single card on the planet?

So here i am now running a HD7990 and guess what............
AMD cards are as good as Nvidia!
AMD drivers are as good!
I don't miss Physx, maybe AMD have an equivalence!
The card is absolutely silent in my Antec 900 and temps are 34 ish idle and 74 ish at load!
I have no microstutter issues, it runs BF4 pinned at 60fps with vsync on and in the 100s with out vsync at 1920x1200 60hz

I am so glad i bought this card :)

Hope that helps as i trawled the review sites and forums to help me make my decision.

I hope my experience with the 7990 will be the same. :)
