Upgrading my system from..

1700+ @ 2.0ghz
9800pro 128mb AGP
2gb 3200

to

c2d E4400
9800pro 128mb
2gb 3200
Asrock dual vsta (bareing in mind that its only 4x PCI-E not the 16x - mobo will be upgraded in the future)

I realise that the 9800pro is the main bottleneck so asked about and a friend has the 'XFX 7800GTX 256mb PCI-E' card for sale for £50, now I know the card is worth more than £50 from a quick look on auction sites, but how will it handle newish games on my upgraded system. Got a 22" W monitor a few days back so ideally would run them at native res. 1680X1050, even if it means no AAxAF (never used them anyways with my 9800pro)

So, worth the £50? or is the money better spent putting towards a different card.

I play HL2, Farcry, and would like to play Supreme Commander/C&C, generally newish games.

It's a huge jump. 2 generations, so around a 200-250% jump in performance i'd say. And that's just the graphics card.

Plus the IQ change will be massive, with you being able to enable high levels of AA and AF.

I remember the jump from my 9600XT to X800XT PE, it was mahoosive. :D
