Hi people , i am selling my Leadtek GeForce 7800 GTX and i wonder if i could find out what the core speed is and also the MHz speed running at , the card has never been over clocked , the reason i am selling due to upgrade to 7900
 
The reference clock speed is 430mHz, but many cards were clocked higher, 450,460,475 and 490mhz.


If you use any overlocking program it will tell you your clock speed.
 
Depends how old it is mate , early ones shipped with clocks of 430/1200 & then they released a new bios which took them to 450/1250 :)

I would think it'll be the lower clocks then mate , you can flash it to the latest bios if you wish then at least you'll know:)

Have a look in the 7800GTX tab in display properties of your card & see what the bios version is , If you have 5.70.02.11.68 that is the later 450/1250 version :)

Does not say 68 at the end , do you have a link for 3d mark , i fancy having a go :) not realy into benchmarking scores , still new to all this , if i buy a new 7900 card will i see a big change in playing games , just found on my 7800 settings

Some games yes, other not so much. It depends on your budget really. The latest cards are good from ATI and NV, but they don't leave the 7800 for dead, those cards are still good performers.

You might want to wait, prices of the 7900s will fall soon in any case, in the summer Nvidia may have their next card which is DX10 compliant. AATI's DX10 wont be here to October or later.
 
Just pressed "Detect Optimal Frequencies" its gone from

Core clock from 430MHz to 492HMz
Memory Clock From 1.20 GHz to 1.32 GHz

I gess this is not safe :)
 
your card 'should' be ok at those frequencies (same as the XFX XXX extreme gamers edition) but you may find you have to drop them.

I myself never used the detect optimal frequencies setting (as it crashed my old 6800GT a while back now).

I would ramp up your clocks say 10mhz at a time run a couple bouts of 3dmark05/03 and then try again. If you run into artifacts (snow on the screen, tearing, missing textures etc then back off the clocks a bit and that will be your maximums on stock cooling.

You have 2gig system ram, which is fine.

I meant, if you are upgrading from the 7800GTX to a faster card, then you should at least get a faster graphics card that also has 512MB GDDR, as more & more games will be utilising this.

pc are never ending , i guess we will soon see the first 1G card , maybe next year
