7800GT HSF Help!

Hi!

Ive got two old 7800GTs which I have used in my old water cooling loop. Obviously to do this I had to the the Heatsink Fans off to put the GPU blocks on.

Last Christmas I replaced them both with a 8800GT and so they have been sat on a shelf for almost a year now.

I'm now looking to sell them but I really need to put the HSFs back onto the cards. Now this is the problem... the memory modules had a piece of thick thermal tape on each to make sure they came into contact with the HSF. By thick, I mean about 2mm.

If I used thermal paste on them, Id be using a lot and the connection wouldn't be great.

Do I have any options available to me as I can't really sell them knowing they will overheat... well I could... :p

Thanks for any help.

That's no good as it's thinner than paper. It's the stuff you use to stick little ramsinks on with. Arctic cooling had a spares shop on the bay were you can buy the pads you need. I got some for an old NV Silencer 5. Pack of 8 for something like £2.50. They are Hong Kong based but it only takes a week or so to arrive. Unfortunately, i can't remember the shops name.

That sounds perfect. Ive had a little look on ebay and am only finding the paper thickness stuff.

Edit: Found a shop called Arctic Cooling RMA Parts but they have no items for sale.

Seen someone else with the same problem as me and someone recommended 3M Thermal pads. Looked on ebay and it doesn't say how thick they are. Just waiting for a reply to my question.

That's the same thin stuff again. I tried that before i found the AC shop. The stuff you need is sometimes sold as a thermal gap filler. I found a couple of companies that sell the stuff but they don't sell it in small quantities. You can try yourself if you like. Here they are:-
