i am gonna get some new things next week and i was wondering if i should upgrade my 7800gt.
i wiil be getting a 6600duo (from a 3000winchester) and 2 gigs of ram.
would i see any noticable increase in performance?

not that im biased or anything but ive got a slightly overclocked Leadteck 7800 GT Extreme Edition (as in ive overclocked it more than the factory overclocked it). Basically it runs every thing on max settings with good FPS (ie between 50 and 100 ish FPS). The only prob i have is running Oblivion on high settings as this does chugg a lot when outdoors.

I cant really run games at higher than 1152 X 864? - think thats right! but thats due to me having to use a crappy CRT at the momment.

I play WoW on Max, Dawn of War on Max, Fear on Max, Doom3 on Max, Demo of Prey on Max, BF2 on Max etc - and all show no signs of slowing!

Although, i am suprised due to me lack of ram and will be looking to change this for a 2gb set asap!

I'm looking to upgrade my rig from an A64 x2 3800+, to an E6600 Conroe based setup, and I was undecided if I should keep my SLI'd 7800GT's (512MB cards) or upgrade.

Not sure I'd cope on the one card tbh, two is even starting to fall on some games these days :(

I'm trying to hold out till G80 is out and not extortionately expensive.

I went from a Leadtek 7800GT to a HIS 1900xt and from a 17inch monitor to a 22 wide. There was nothing wrong with my 7800GT, going into my htpc now, just the HIS was too good a price to pass at.

Im suprised 2x 7800 GT's are not cutting it today, id give the G80 a month or so to see the prices drop as they are supposed to be in limited supply, so prices could well be £500+, im sure Gibbo said he was only expecting about 200, so id say a premium price of £500+ may not be to far off the mark.

Im not sure if your 3800+ could be a bottleneck for your 2x GT's a, but a E6600 Conroe shoud let them fly either fly.

Ive only got an A64 3500+ here which is a bottleneck for my 512mb x1800 XT, so im upgrading to a Conroe next week to let it breath a bit more, as at the moment im probably not getting the full potential out of it, even though it cuts through everything fine with ease, im just going for the Conroe so that my x1800 will be able to breath a bit more in the upcoming games, so i can hang onto it for a bit longer. :)

As for the OP id go for the 7900 GTO at only £180 as its got the 512mb Ram, and will easily turn into a fully fledged GTX, and at the price it is, its an absolute steal, and wil be a cracking upgrade up from the GT you have. :)

Mind you paradigm if you are thinking of upgrading your gfx card also, then the 7900 GTO should be a worthy upgrade for you as well, as as said that price is a steal, and it will tun into a fully fledged GTX with ease.
