Basically i'm building a mate a new machine in a few weeks (not really for gaming, just general use/uni work), and it obviously needs a GFX card.

I therefore have two options:

1) I can sell him my 7800GT for ~£90 and upgrade to a better card.

or 2) keep my 7800GT Extreme and wait til next year and DX10/next gen cards.

I'm only looking to spend in the region of £100-140 (so £190-230 including the money from my GT). I only game at 1280x1024, and I'm not really noticing any major issues with the GT, but I dont want to get to a stage where its next to worthless (I'd rather upgrade whilst it still has a decent resell value). I also want a decent step up, to make it more worthwhile (and justify it better to myself ;))

So what would you do, and what card would you get?

sell it while you can still get money for it,

Then get a x1900 xt or 7900 GTO :)

Might has well get more perfromance for little outlay.

Your mates happy,you're happy

nuff said :)

I was debating the same to myself recently, but when I thought hard about it, there is nothing I play currently (COD2/HL2/Far Cry/TOCA3 mainly) which can't be handled by my 7800GT Extreme at 1440 x 900 (Max res on my monitor).

So, nice though it is to get a new graphics card, I'm waiting for DX10 cards I think.

The 7800 is going to be worth something in 6 months time, as there is always somebody behind you on the upgrade curve?

I'm going to hold on to my 7800 GT's until DX10 cards hit.

Don't really see the point in upgrading now, I KNOW i'll want to when DX10 hits anyway lol.
