7800GTX, Ntune issues

Hi,

For the last year or so I've been running my 7800gtx @ 490Mhz /1300Mhz without the slightest problem. I have a samsung 913N so 1280 is the max for gaming.

Today I downloaded the Bioshock demo and then found the new Nvidia Beta drivers for better frame rates in the game. Of course this reset the card back to 430/1200.

Bioshock was great though short, even with everything turned up max @ 1280x1024 my minimun frame rate was 15 through at the crash site with 20-30 indoors. Now I can live with that having come from the days where Doom had to be played in a letter box to get playable frame rates.

Anyhow, coolbits now has no effect on the Driver as only the new control panel is there so I downloaded that latest Ntune, 5.018 I think and set about clocking the GPU. No luck, defaults to around 407 Mhz on auto and won't pass the test to set a different rate even if I set it to 430 default.

I'm guessing the driver is somehow broken as previous versions have always auto'd to a little over 500/1360 which I backed down a little for stability.

So, it there a robust alternative for clocking the GPU, coolbits was easy..... or is there a way I can get the old Control panel back without ditching the newer drivers.

Sorry for the long post but trying to give plenty of detail.

Regards

Fixed

Ok,

Fixed it. Answer here for anyone else with a similar issue.

After trying several sets of drivers and a lot of reinstalling.

uninstalled ntune - figure this is the major culprit
uninstalled 163.44
reboot safe
Driver cleaner
reboot
install 163.44

used a registry hack named: enableoldNV_CP.reg

(sorry can't link to it but easy on google)

Then 'Coolbits' registry hack

Now I have the old control panel back and the overclocking tool is there.

Self detects correctly and can set back to original clock settings.

Hope this helps someone
