So, I've got a BFG 7800GTX (256mb) which IIRC i paid >£330  last October
Do I upgrade it yet or keep it? (not to keen on overclocking it) - I figure it's probably the 'weekest link' in my system.

System:
A64 4000+ (939) San Diego IIRC
Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2
BFG 7800GTX 256mb
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
X-fi ExtremeMusic
WD 74gb Raptor
Maxtor 300gb 16mb Cache
Logitech G7 & G15
Running X64

TY

wait till dx10 cards arrive (what im doing anyway) unless you have loads of money or needs for uber resolutions :p
ok its not the fastest card anymore but its not exactly a slouch either and wont be worth much more than £140 if u sold it........

2p

Depends if you feal its holding you back in games. What res do you play at?? Only upgrades from that is the x1900xt or xtx, 7900gtx or 7950gx2. Might just be worth holding out till the next phase of cards appear.

mobo's not the x32 version :(
I don't want to buy another Nvidia SLI 939 mobo (why have 2)
"ASUS A8N-SLI Premium"
Don't worry about that. It just means that it'll run the PCI-E slots at 8x per slot instead of 16x. From what I've read the full 16x bandwidth isn't used anyway so it shouldn't matter.

Hurts dont it :( and yes ive looked at same situation as you have hence waiting for dx10

But the fact that they sell for a relativly small amount does mean that you can go SLI for a relativly small amount as well :)

Keep it and clock it.
I played Q4 last night on my Leadtek 7800gtx @520/1.37 at a res of 1600x1200 with 2 x AA and 8 x AF with all driver and game settings to max.
Using fraps the game only occasionaly dipped below its capped 60FPS and that was in the outside areas and it dippped to 35FPS.
I think thats not bad.
Keep your card and wait for 2nd gen Dx10 cards.
Oh and the 7800gtx has a major advantage over the 7900gt, they work!

The 7800GTX 256mb is quite capable of running all the latest games pretty much maxed out with AA and AF applied.

The only games where it struggles on the absolute max settings is COD2 (on extra texture settings) and Oblivion from what I had tested.

Everything else just ran really well.

I find COD2 allright but i have to drop my clocks a little in FEAR otherwise i get artifacts. i think ive turned off shadows in COD2 but cant remember.

Even with the texture settings set to extra?

I found I could only keep then @ high to get an acceptable constant framerate @ 1280x1024 albeit I wanted 4xAA and 8xAF so if I had sacrificied a bit of AA I could have got Extra settings.

Oh well just ordered a X1900XT OEM so I am happy (sorry for the OT)
