7800x3d and 9800x3d rrp?

fall of the £ over $, don't help. everybody wants 1 when none in stock. (inflated Prices then) In some way with some sellers (greed)

Yep. It is depressing though. The 7800X3D retail price is £440 and reached as low as £330 when I bought it. The retail price of the 9800X3D is £450, and you are hard pressed to find it below £530.

I was fortunate enough to buy a 7800X3D when it hit rock bottom retail pricing. I won’t be buying a 9800 let’s put it that way, these prices are absolute insanity for an 8 core CPU.
So did I. I plan to sell it shortly, and I suspect i may receive a similar amount or more than what I bought it for. Knowing it will drop in the coming weeks as 9800X3D stock stabilises, i did cave in and buy a 9800X3D as i'm CPU bound in many games. Not a logical upgrade, but that's life :D

High end pc gaming was never logical :D

It’s a curse I tell ye!

The inflated prices aren't due to exchange rates. This is just scalping / supply & demand.

Shame. All the scalping and stock issues is taking some of the fun out of this hobby.

Oh, absolutely. Even on launch day, it wasn't at MSRP at most, if not all, retailers. I guess they all knew they had such limited stock, and weren't getting sizeable deliveries until January 2025, so yanked up the prices £100 in some cases. Just prepare yourselves for the same thing happening with the 50 series....

So 9800x3d is £530 today and in stock. Is it a good buy or can one get better option ?

between 7800x3d and 9800x3d I would choose the latter. Its not worth buying 7800x3d for £450 unless you can get one second hand for <£300. In 2025 8 core cpu should not be £500 I don't care how many 3D suffixes are after it.

is there anything better than 9800x3d ? or is 9800 the GOAT ?

it depends really on what you want it for, the to be released soon 9950x3d should be better simply because more cores for those that have software than can take advantage of it an d good for gaming its like the best compromise between gaming and software that is multi threaded. But for purely gaming 9800x3d is better because some games prefer the 3D cache and the 9700x is better in other application because of its higher boost clock. No one fits all unfortunately, some early rumours were that the 9950x3d can boost as high as the 9950 but I have not kept up with things. Have to wait for reviews but I suspect it will be a repeat of the previous generation of ryzen performance comparisons.
