Hi

I'm looking to upgrade my current Ryzen 3600x to a 7800x3d, I have the ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO cooler for the 3600x.

Does anyone know if this cooler is suitable for the 7800x3d or do I need a new cooler? :D

Cheers. A long time lurker!

This will be for a new build for my iRacing sim rig, so new mobo, ram, and cpu required! My current cooler is pretty decent so would prefer to use that if I can to save a few pennies.

Just to clarify, but the 7800X3D will need a new motherboard, as it uses the newer AM5 Socket (whereas 3600x is AM4)

It's physically compatible (as both AM4 and AM5 use the same cooler dimensions and retention mechanism), but may not be up the job of the hotter chip

Well duh, how the hell did I miss that. @Armageus sorry chap, a bios update will not allow it to run. I could have swore you said 3600x to 5800x3d. Teach me to read posts properly!! You will need DDR5 as well as a new motherboard.

Thanks as well

As i thought and am always hearing from people that with AMD cpu's you don't have to upgrade the motherboard like you normally do with intel cpu's

No worries, yes I knew I needed a new mobo, so not a prob. Will probably future proof myself to some extent and jump to the 7800x3d - it will last me and my needs a few years easily!
