7800X3D + RAM Upgrade now, or wait till 8000 series?

Ah I was leaning towards the Gigabyte for the aesthetic anyway so that makes the decision easier!

quite pricey for a board with only 3 nvme slots, non of which are gen5 though, esp if you plan keeping it for 4/5 years..if you upgrade your storage in couple years you might regret that..gen5 will probably be mainstream by then...be a tad annoying buying a gen 5 drive if that's best price/performance at time, only to run it at gen 4 speeds

edit..ignore me, looked up elsewhere and said did, so checked gigabyte website, primary nvme slot is pcie5

while looking, shame it's intel board, but like the look of the msi z790 project zero atx board. pcie gen5 gpu and nvme, with wifi 7 too also

Anything other than Intel is fine ... which usually means Realtek.

I always regarded Intel NICs as good cards, are they really that bad?

With work we always pick Intel NICs over realtek for our equipment

Yup, this. It’s just those ones ( all versions ) which unfortunately is most of the current gen Asus motherboards. I went with a MSI X670E Carbon to avoid any hassle.

Just seen this thread, after posting a similar question 5900x to 7950x3d. so useful info.

as for waiting for the 8000 cpus, better sell on my 5900x MB etc now and upgrade to the 7950x3d , as prices will fall on 2nd hand kit.
