780GTX SLI keeps locking

Thanks guys.

Is there a way I can actually test the PSU?

I've no problem buying another one if it's the issue, but I don't really want to just spend 150-200 on a guess.

I did look at the PSU before I bought it, I did find what model it was rebranded somewhere and it had decent reviews, I will see if I can dig it up.

Aparantly they are rebranded OCZ units, normally made by FSP or the older / smaller ones Sifra.

**EDIT** just called, they confirmed it's an OCZ fatality rebranded, but they said it is still probable that it isn't providing enough juice for the Zotac AMPS.

I'll test each GFX card individually and if it works ok then look to replace the PSU.

This looks quite tasty:

does seem power related perhaps a faulty psu, cos i'm running a very similar setup 780sli (oc'd), nv surround on a corsair tx850 v2 with no issues

Ah i remember the bad times i had with my 260gtx, random lock ups/blue screens every day. That was PSU related, not enough amps on the rail to support it :(

Now i know more about it i never skimp on the PSU, all ways get a quality PSU.

When I built the PC I put two 760's in, but then a month later upgraded to the 780's.

The power supply seemed to be perfectly adequate at the time, and I didn't think I was skimping on it, it seemed perfectly fine in terms of voltage and amps, and I also checked at the time to see if it was made well with a little research. It's not like I went for a £25.00 ebay jobbie :), didn't realise a £100 1000w PSU might not be good enough, which TBH, still sounds a little crazy (each card should be 250w I believe).

I only have one SSD, and two sata devices connected, although quite a few fans / the cooler.

Knowing how manufacturers normally over state the requirements I thought it should be perfectly fine.

Would you guys then say that a 1000w OCZ PSU is not up to the job to run my system?

Anyhow, I will pull one card and run it then do the same with the other first and see what happens.

I don't get blue screens at all, and all other games apart from Planetside 2 and Titanfall never lock up whatsoever. I've ran ARMAIII all night which is very intensive and a lot of other recent titles with no issues, as well as firestrike over and over but with these two it seems to have constant stability issues.

Cheers,

Well, both seem to run ok by themselves, actually Titanfall runs much smoother with no stuttering like before on only one card running surround.

I did some searching and found that Titanfall has microstuttering issues with SLI And poor performance, so most people are saying to disable SLI, so perhaps this isn't the best title to base my test on :S

Still, although the planetside 2 client is far from perfect, surely not both of those should hard lock unless there was an underlying issue.

Do you guys think I should run some more test or go with a beefier 1300w single rail PSU and give it a try? I'd be a bit gutted to get a new one and pull the machine apart and re-wire it only to have the same issue but not too sure?

Cheers!

You can DSA the PSU if its not that.

So you think other than the PSU there isn't anything else I can try? Hmmm. I'm running out of ideas too, I'm just not sure why an OCCT power test maxing the CPU and GPU's together didn't cause a hardlock in SLI surround.

I guess it's time to shell out some cash and keep my fingers crossed then.

Titanfall does not supprt SLI/XFire at this monent

I did read about all the xfire / sli issues on it last night, although aparantly there was a patch (I noticed the microstuttering when I bought the game but thought it was down to the 60fps lock) which is what made me think twice about the hardware and think of a driver issues, but it does the same with planetside 2, which I am not sure is a co-incidence?

I was hovering over my cart just now before having a quick check on the forum again.

Quick update, no locks recently since a combination of things and installing the new beta drivers under safe mode.

I haven't played PS2 for a while though, so we will see!

Cheers!
