780ti for 1080p gaming

Just watched a review that suggested a 780ti wouldn't be overkill for 1080p at ultra 8xMSAA. Example they gave was Farycry 3 would be 55fps on those settings. I can't quite work out if 8xMSAA is a waste of time or if its worth paying the £130ish premium compared to a standard 780.

Any experiences or thoughts on this?
 
personally I didn't think 8xmsaa made a big difference in far cry 3. because of all the postprocessing and forced fxaa it seemed really blurry anyway.
120/144hz @1080p would probably be a better option with that card, and keep the AA to 4x or less.
 
GTX 780 should be fine, it's still a good card at a good price atm. Most people can't justify the extra money for the 780ti.
 
I find MSAA usually gives me some input lag or makes it worse, so I try to stay away from it or use just 2x.
The 780ti is around 20% faster than the 780 so the extra 30% cost isn't too bad for price/performance. More reasonable than the £120 between the 290 and 290x.
 
I would not be bothered about 8xMSAA but I have got a soft spot for Supersampling on GTAIV enb which is 3840x2160 downsampled into 1080p which looks beautiful but brutal on most GPUs.

And some review sites say crysis 3 is around 60fps at 1920x1200 at max settings with a 780ti

But there only a couple of games out now that can use most the power of a 780ti at 1080p..

780ti is not overkill when you enable max IQ + max AA. That's why I bought one even though only @ 1920x1200 on my monitor.

The 780 was not quite fast enough in some games like Crysis3 & AC4.
 
Everyone says Titan is overkill for 1080p but when I had one it kept on creeping under 30fps in Crysis 3 with everything maxed and small/medium AA which I wasn't happy with. 780 Ti is how powerful the Titan/780 should have been anyway but NVIDIA were great at dipping into enthusiasts pockets more than once with their flagships in this 28nm process.
