780Ti FPS problems

Hi guys,

I installed my Inno3D 780Ti iChill DHS last night and left 3DMark Firestrike running, no problems at all and scored 11058 on standard clocks which I was pretty chuffed with. My previous best was 5217 on my clocked 7950.

I played some Watch Dogs and all seemed well.

This morning I tried BF4 and Titanfall, both of which are now stuttering and when I say stuttering I mean 2 FPS :-(

I'm guessing it's driver related? Any ideas? I'm using 337.88 and the spec is as Sig.

Cheers.

Crysis 2, Arma 3, FarCry 3, Thief, Insurgency, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watch Dogs, CS:GO, Alan Wake all work perfectly with everything on Ultra.

It could be the clocks locked in sleep mode. I would use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and reinstall those drivers.

Bf4 is having a few issues post patch and dlc, but drops to 2fps is still pretty bad. Try rolling back to a previous driver and see how it go's. 337.50 being one I found to be good. No idea on titan fall as I don't own it I'm afraid.

Strangely enough it seems to be EA titles that are suffering?!

I'll roll back the drivers this afternoon and give that a shot. I wonder if those particular games are suffering due to me having an AMD card when they were installed? Do they write particular code upon installation depending on the GPU I wonder? Seems a long shot now I think about it...

So, roll back drivers. Then I'll try a unistall/reinstall of the offending games as a last resort.

Okay, progress. Kind of...

If I launch any Origin game through Steam using the add game/shortcut option then I get the terrible stuttering. If I launch it via the actual Origin shortcut then it runs fine.

Things I've done;

Deleted Nvidia Experience - a bit of Googling has shown up this sometimes throws a spanner in the works.

Downloaded 337.50, not installed though - sat on my desktop.

I'm thinking it's something to do with how Steam opens the executable, there's only the one process showing in task manager as you expect and CPU useage isn't showing anything excessive. Interestingly GPU useage shows a tiny percentage and the clockspeed is circa 300mhz. Gregster, I think you were on to something. This only occurs when launched via Steam though?

I'll keep plugging away lol

Try the older WHQL (337.50) and see if that helps. Do you have a soundcard as well?

Only onboard sound although I now have what sounds like coil whine on some games through the headset. I've put it down to the new card being huge and pushing out a bit more interference.

I'll get the driver rolled back and see how I fare.

That's cool, as I have heard soundcards can also mess things up. Hopefully it is just a case of drivers not working for you and the previous will have no issues. As for coil whine, you should beast the cards for a couple of hours on max stable overclocks and see if that helps. Sometimes it is just bedding in and needs a little encouragement.

It's definitely something to do with how 337.88 interacts with Steam.

I couldn't get the new (old) driver to install, "Can't update driver whilst Steam is running" - it wasn't running.

Started in Safe mode to stop Steam booting and rolled the driver back. Booted normally with the new driver, launched Titanfall via Steam with absolutely no problems.

You're a scholar and a gent. Thanks mate.

Right, now to hammer this card lol

Any pointers on what monitoring/OC'ing software to use with the new card?

I used to use Afterburner but after changing the card it doesn't show frequency anymore, just a percentage? I've got the latest vers.

The nVidia also seems to hate the fps overlay too, had to hard reset when checking out gains earlier.

lol I use Afterburner (AB). I don't have any issues except for BF4, which will not let me run AB whilst playing for some reason.

Precision X is also a good one but both use the Rivatuner engine, so pretty similar.
