Just got a 780-Ti of my brother that was/is in perfect condition but for some reason it will not boot with the HDMI cable plugged in, i unplug it let the system post them plug it back in and all if fine. If i don't unplug it the system just hangs.

Any ideas?

I believe that with the HDMI plugged in it will default the HDMI display to primary display - As such it could be a simple HDCP handshake issue. Unfortunately I don't know how to cure this (I am having similar issue with my 970 in living room system). If you reset the system upon hang does it load up fine? This is what happens with my 970 (and occurred when I had my main rig in living room connected via HDMI also - 780Ti's) intermittently. I can only assume that there is a problem within nvidia's drivers regarding HDCP.

Do you have another display (not HDMI) that you can test, set to duplicate displays and see if issue persists perhaps afterwards?

if i reset the system when it hangs, there is a 50/50 chance of a boot or it just hanging again.
I have a TV with VGA input but no cable i will have a ring round. also i will trying a second hdmi cable just in case.
