I was about to ask which 290X, as it could sway my opinion either way.

Windforce for £180 is a great deal.

What a load of nonsense this entire GPU debate is.
My current rig is Pentium K (because the i7 4970 died)and R9 270x on 21inch 1080p monitor it plays everything...
And today I put it on the 47inch lounge Tv and played everything, GTAv looked awesome.
I was looking to upgrade GPU...why bother?
No doubt a low end Nvidia card would do just as well so unless you have a genuine need for a mega card or just won the triple roll over wake up and realise you do not need to drop £800 on a GPU £300 on a CPU and £250 on a mobo and you don't need 16gb of ram either!!

I reckon the i7 probably died because it was fed up waiting for the R9 270x to render its backlog of instructions...
