780ti Sli worth it question

So I'm currently running a 780ti under water on a 1440p monitor. I like to run my games with all the bells and whistles and don't like to lose any quality (personal thing I know). So is it worth picking up another 780ti while they are cheaper and run Sli or is it not really worth it and may cause more problems. I can only really get a stable 1160 / 7600. It'll bench at 1260 but crashes in games, 1160 it play all day long (max temp is 43c and 1.2 makes no difference at all to stability.

Option 2 is to wait until the 980ti comes out and get one of those further down the line (not keen on the idea as the 780 is only 6 months old).

Option 3 is to buy a ROG swift monitor so I don't see the occasional tearing in games when the frame rate drops (not keen as my monitor is also only 6 months old and it's twice the price of another 780ti.

What would you do?

I had this exact same question a few weeks ago. I ended up grabbing another 780Ti that I got for a great price. My reasoning was there seemed very little real world difference between the 980 and the 780Ti, so going SLI was going to be quite a decent upgrade.

I think I made the correct decision, sure games are now asking for more VRAM, but it seems like its games that are poorly coded and I don't think a 980 having an extra 1GB will make all that much difference.

The real question is when will the 980Ti come out and for how much, it seems obvious to me it will be a great card but no one knows how good it will be, how much VRAM it will have and much it will cost. Obviously there are no answers yet, if you spend £300 for a 780Ti now and in 3 months a 980Ti is out for £500 with 8GB VRAM, you will probably regret it. But who knows, I thought about it and went with what’s best for now and deal with the regret if and when it happens :)

Thanks for the reply and great information.

I am tempted to go the same way and it was more to do with the Sli issues (if any of course). Card is indeed £300 but I would also like a water block for it so we are now nearer to £400. If the 980ti comes out at £600 and is close to the power of 2 780ti's (wishful thinking maybe) then I would be upset. If the 2 780's are still faster and I'm not missing out on any new tech, read DX12, then I'm on to a winner
