I could really do with some help here please people!?
I currently own an asus hd 7850.
Now recently iv been having problems with freezing while playing games. The freezes can happen at any time between 10 mins to an hour. When they happen, everything freezes. The sound freezes like a stuck record and the picture goes to blank screen. The only thing i can do to correct it, is a hard reset.
It is currently OC @ 1110/5200 @ 1.115v
I have ran GPUZ and logged to file to check for overheating issues and everything seems fine.
it never reaches above 60c even when its really stretched.
I have tried driver re installs with complete wipes, re installed oc program as well. still no sucess.

Any ideas please from anyone would be greatly appreciated!
Im presuming its a GPU issue.

its been running this OC for months now! it can run a lot higher than it currently is! Iv had it running 1220/5400 @ 1.25 at its max. that seemed on the limits of its stability so i therefore down clocked it.

I have recently removed the cooler though to apply a better thermal paste (arctic silver 5). Im now just wondering whether that could be the cause.
i will try running it @ stock later this evening to see if this has the same results. As that`s one thing i haven`t tried yet.

And just to add i get no driver failure warning either. it just completely freezes everything.

thanks for the reply!

Ensure that you fully tightened (but not over tightened) the screw clamps for the gpu heatsinks after you re-applied tim.

Could be a driver issue, what driver version are you running?

Yep did that! And im currently running 12.5 drivers from amd. Had no problems with them! Until now maybe.

could be that your card is degrading much faster than expected and you need abit more volts for a stable overclock

A little worrying, but yes it might be! But surely not on that time scale. Only been a few months and the temps on the card have never even touched 70c.

I have also just removed the card for a little inspection of things, replaced it and upped the volts to 1.18. Seems to be fine with OC so far. seems funny its just started now after a few months. Il try running an intense game tomorrow for a few hrs, see how it copes. Its fine @ stock.
Maybe it just wasnt seated in its slot correctly. Its been known before!

And thanks for the suggestions peeps!

what dram and cpu/vtt voltages are you using? can be not enough cpu/vtt also, will cause the same freezing issue esp in games

Its fine @ stock.

Therein lies your answer, OC'ing is fine and dandy but, when a card is taken further than what it's set at the factory, there is a whole lot of problems that can happen.

Overambitious here, on the cpu/mb/ram there, another piece of hardware might not like it, then problems can start getting thrown up causing instability through time.

CPU is i3 2100 can only be run @ stock 3.1ghz
RAM is corsair vengeance 1333mhz and as far as i know no issues. mem test came up fine as well.
H61 mobo.
powered by a 650w psu.

all standard stuff.

It is possible. Everything else is stock though. I may just have to settle at dropping my OC to stock. :(
No reports of high temps, so im swaying for the instability issue. Its just strange it should happen now a few months down the line.
Upping the voltage so far seems quite ok. But only time will tell i guess.

The ambient temperature is around 10 degrees hotter now than it was two months ago. If your card was running at the edge of stability then, it may have just crept over it now due to the slight heat increase.
