I'm going to get a 7850 for my first build as it's perfect for the games i want to play and in my budget. I have a couple questions.

1. which is the best brand for 7850's? (which has best coolers or performance etc...)

2. which brand is best/easiest for overclocking.

3. which brand is the best for customer support.

Thanks in advanced.

I keep hearing about this 'new' voltage locking. Is this like the past generations where by 'locked' just meant it had the cheap non-adjustable VRM's, or are they now somehow software/firmware locking the better adjustable VRM's?

Are any of the reference model cards 'locked'?

That's IF and only IF

I inferred from honosuseri's post that it is

The voltage locking is usually at bios level and can be removed by flashing the bios of a known unlocked similar card, but some recent gigabyte cards (7950) are coming hardware locked however they do it.

hmm...how can they lock the firmware (BIOS) in a way where Afterburner or such can't access it?

Is it that the whole BIOS is locked, similar to what started with the 6000 series cards, in some way where even atiflash or such can't unlock it for access?
