Hi all,

Hopefully this is my last question thread.

Basically yesterday I was recommended a spec that was on sale, and is now no longer on sale. for the graphics card I was recommended this:
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce

Now that the price has gone up I was thinking of getting this one instead:
HIS HD 7870 IceQ

I'm putting it in a Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 motherboard with a Intel Core i5-3570 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) CPU, with Patriot Intel Extreme Masters 8GB RAM and I have a 620W power supply.

I'm not overclocking anything in the case, and I'm going to be installing Windows 7 Pro. Also, I'm going to be running 2 monitors on the card.

So, which one should I get?

Really? I was looking at the HIS card I linked to specifically because it advertised itself as cooler. If you think the one you linked to is quieter, then I'll have to have a look at the as well though.

As for the MIS card, I don't think I like the twin fan design of the cooler. Yes it's a silly reason, but it's what I feel :p. Also, I'm a big believer in the higher the base price, the higher the likely quality of the final product, and between the 2, the HIS cards have a higher base price <_<;;

But you were going to buy the Gigabyte 7850 with dual fans before the price went up?

I'd go with the MSI card arc@css linked you to. There is no reason for the HIS card to more expensive than the MSI card, and to be honest, I would have thought it would be the other way around. MSI is a far more reputable company than HIS.

Higher base price doesn't equal a better product.

I was going to buy it because it was something like £20 off <_<;;
Now that the price has increased, all of the websites I've seen say that the 7870 is a better product, enough to justify a £10 increase anyway, and the HSI cards specifically say that they're quieter both on the product page and on the customer reviews. That's partially why I'm currently leaning towards getting one of the HSI cards.

Also I've been looking at the forums, and there have been complaints about MSI cards here. Apparently there may be a problem with the thermal transfer to the heatsink? So the fans are running fast and loud.

That was a problem that pertained only to certain batches of MSI 7950 TF3 cards, not to MSI as a brand in general. It has a lot of attention here because of the large amount of people who own 7950 TF3's.
