7850 or 7950 ?

If you after a 7950 then maybe waiting till Thursday for the NV670 it might shake things up a bit

thinking of spending what i would save getting an i5 IB instead of the i7 and spending it on the 7950 instead of the 7850,just wanna know if the cost is worth it over the 7850 cos they overclock dam good

ye my build is a week away or 2 but i like to get stuff in the basket and have a play with it :P check reviews etc get the advice from my fellow OCUK guys and gals ofc

With the current buzz around the GTX 670 the recommendation would be to hold off a few more days (if you can) and see the prices and the reviews.

If its as good as it sounds then there may be another AMD price drop around the corner as well.

sounds like a plan then

I think you're better off with the i5 and 7950, don't think youde notice the difference with an i7. Remember the 7950 also overclocks like a mad thing as well as the 7850.

If you can afford a 7950, get one. The 7850 is an amazing card no question, but if you can afford the better one you might as well!

I had a 7850 and sent it back to get a 7950.

The 7950 is a lot faster, well worth the extra £100. It is also worthwhile getting one with a custom cooler rather than a stock one. I had a stock cooler on the 7850, it was loud and hot. The Sapphire double fan cooler on my 7950 is loads better.

Not entirely true. An OC'd 7850 will be about as fast as a stock 7950. So it's hardly a 'lot' faster unless you OC the 7950, which of course will start to pull away again.

As for being hot and loud, that's due to having the stock cooler. Had you gone for a custom cooled 7850 (Saphhire/MSI/HIS etc) it would have been cool and quiet :p

The 7850 is great bang for buck, and you're paying 50% more to get a 7950. It's hardly peanuts.

However. If you can afford the 7950 it is the next card up the scale to go for. The 7870 is pretty poorly placed in terms of price/performance.
