I know the 7850 overclocks a huge amount so I was wondering does the 7870 do the same and be worth having over a 7850 or will they both be around the same speed after both being overclocked? Thank you.

I'm just looking for something to replace my GTX 480. I play a lot of BF3 and only worthwhile upgrade would be a GTX 670 which is too much. If I go the ATI route a 7850 overclocked will probably perform about the same as a GTX 480 on that game so was wondering if I could get a 7870 for under £200 then if it's worth having that over the 7850. Only changing the graphics card as the monitor I want needs DP which the GTX 480 doesn't have. The Samsung S27A750D. I would go for the Samsung S27A950D but OCUK's pricing is terrible on this product and the places which have it at a reason price are all out of stock even OCUK were until recently. And I'm not paying £380 for a B-Grade product not taking that risk.

Would be careful about criticizing OCUk's pricing on their own forum, the benchmarks i have seen show the 7850 to be within about 5% of the 7870 when there both overclocked. (benchmarks though so not sure what effect this would have on game play)

Not sure what to advise though waiting for the 660 launch in a few weeks though as that may be a better card for the price, just depends when they launch it not sure what the current rummer is.

Just keep what you got. 7850 is more like a sidegrade...so it's not really worth the extra money.

I'm sure I won't get disciplined for saying OCUK's price on the monitor is terrible - because it is! They only have 3 in stock at that price and has been for a while and it'll probably remain that way. Yeah it's a bad situation to be in as any upgrade would cost me a lot more to have a noticeable performance increase but I want that monitor so need DP. Ideal situation is to sell the GTX 480 and get a 7850 for as low as possible it seems.

Actually I don't think you can completely blame OcUK for those price. If anything, you should blame AMD's way of pricepointing their cards by pointlessly putting two cards between the 7850 and 7970 when there should be just one (and if counting the "7930" it would make it three cards between 7850 and 7970.)

7970 is has finally dropped to a more reasonable price level of £330, but in contrast, the cards below it are still overpriced. If you think about back then the 5850 was at £220 and 5870 was at £330, you would probably agree with me that there is absolutely not need for AMD to have so many cards, when they should have just price the 7950 at under £250, and the 7850 at £150-£170 rather than £170-£200+.

Might want to read the thread before you rant about AMD's prices, he's actually talking about the price of a Samsung monitor.

Thought he meant the prices of the OcUK's cards he see on his monitor is terrible, since this topic is about graphic card. Either way, I stand with my opinion that cards below 7970 are overpriced, which is silly considering usually it has always been the cards of top-end card being overpriced.

OCUK have the asus direct cu ii at 329 for the 7970 - that is just crazy value- and that would be a great upgrade.

Ive seen one in action and if you also value quiet power you will love it.
