I dropped a small glass of water on my pc and it ended up going in to my case. Luckily it was not too bad and i managed to turn off the pc and dry it all out before any damage could be done. Except after drying it out and turning it all back on after 5 mins the graphics card broke. It was a 2 and a half year old msi 7850. I think its out of warranty and the serial numbers sticker were all wet and fell off. So i am looking to buy a new card.

I am thinking of upgrading to a better card as never had any card better than a £150 range.

So i am looking at going up to entry level 290x or a 970. Any suggestions? I do have a shield tablet as well so was edging towards the nvidia but the specs on the 290x just seems better but I am not sure?

Any suggestions?

I have two weeks off work in june due to an operation, so need a new card for then ideally and can't wait for the new amd card to come out next month. Otherwise ill have two weeks no gaming while recovering from operation.

EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC rev2.00 ACX 2.0 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (04G-P4-3975-KR)

Asus Radeon R9 290X ROG Matrix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (MATRIX-R9290X-4GD5)

Which one would you pick? The AMD is cheaper. But Nvidia seems better. Although reading mixed reviews about the noise levels on the nvidia under heavy load.

Any thoughts. Sorry same old question in every thread :)

Well I did dry it out a bit but obviously not sufficient enough. It was an expensive mistake no doubt about that. On a positive note i didn't break my psu or motherboard or anything else so considering that i think i got off lightly.

Just bought the Asus Radeon R9 290X hopefully it arrives tomorrow in time for long weekend :D

Thanks for suggestions. The time and hassle to deal with second hand puts me off, plus you never realy know how well second hand will perform.
