I recently got a 7850 from my brother, I have been playing around with overclocking it.

It was overclocking just fine for a while but recently it has been getting stuck at the stock clock (860mhz).

It doesn't matter how high you push the GPU clock and power limit sliders, it will only go up to stock clock even with furmark running.

Have I triggered some sort of safe mode in the card or driver by pushing it too far?
It did get rather hot when over clocked (I was trying to find a clock that gets temperatures in the sweet spot).

whats the stock clocks on the card, and what temperatures did it reach?

And are you using msi afterburner to overclock?

Stock clock is 860mhz core and 1200mhz memory, it just ignores the overclocking settings even with MSI afterburner. I am just trying the new beta driver now and I will see if that helps.

So yeah I did use MSI afterburner, doesn't make any difference. I have accidentally had it over 100 degrees for a short period in the past, I think it has some thermal protection since I think it rebooted when I first had a stab at overclocking it.

Ok, the new beta driver update fixed this. Very weird and confusing bug though, why did that happen? :S

Odds are clock settings in ccc overdrive (or what ever it's called these days) was over riding afterburner.
