7850?

Greetings!

I'm currently running crossfire 5770's, but the second card looks as though it's giving up. (fair enough I bought it second hand on the cheap) I get horizontal lines whilst attempting to play games in full screen, so I'm assuming the second card is to blame?

This got me thinking about replacing them both with a brand new, current gen card. My budget is £150-170 so a 7850 seems to fit the bill perfectly..but is it worth me taking the plunge here?

I recently bought a number of games, including Skyrim, so how much of a performance increase would I see, compared to a single 5770 and crossfire? This would be at 1920x1080 on a PCI-E 2 board. The 7xxx cards are all 3.0 if I understand correctly.

If a 7850 is the way to go, is it worth paying more for the MSI twin frozr variants or sticking with the £150 HIS IceQ on offer today?

Cheers

I see, the core is at 860 compared to 975 on the £162 Gigabyte OC model. Is it worth paying the extra £10 or could that be easily sorted using OverDrive?

I'm not sure how familiar you are with these cards but what's the realistic max these cards can go to?

I'm thinking either the HIS or Gigabyte due to their favourable RMA services.

Another question, will the dual fans be of any benefit if I plump for the Gigabyte model?

pretty much all 7850's will hit at least 1000mhz core on stock volts, so it doesn't really matter.

i have the Gigabyte one myself and im not sure what temps the reference cooler gives but the temps on mine are nothing to write home about TBH, idles around 40 hits about 60 under load and if i pump some more voltage into it hits 70.

Thanks, what about noise levels? It's not a big deal but quieter is always preferable.
