Hi all

So I'm getting a 7870 and just wondered how much of a bottleneck my Q6600 at 3Ghz and using a PCI express 16x 1.1 port will be in BF3? I know it will make a diffrence but dont want to upgrade before ivy bridge...???

Yeah I have checking that thread....it got me all pumped up to get a new GPU.... I guess I'm going for a 7870 as had the spare cash and got the 7870 a bit cheap because of a coupon code...

I'd say it's worth it. After all, you'll be upgrading in the too terribly distant future, and in the meantime I'm sure you'll see a noticeable improvement, particularly as most games are gpu dependent anyway.

The 7800's are looking like great cards. It's weird; I mean I don't need an upgrade, yet I still drool over the 7870 in particular. :) Can't wait for the 7890 (384 bit!). :D

Nice one and I am sure you will love it. Have fun mate and give some feedback on it.

Being 1.1 might knock a couple of % off, but I wouldn't be too worried, 16x 1.1 is basically = 8x 2.0, and people use that all the time for CF setups.

The Q6600 @ 3GHz will hold you back more, is there any reason you've not taken it higher?

If its a G0 then anything between 3.2-3.6 should be doable. 3.2 is very easy to get 400 x 8, mem at 1:1, knock the volts up a tad and job done.

Basically, squeeze as much out of that Q6600 as you can and you will be fine.

Ok I have card and its great plays BF3 SP no issues always above 50fps....but in BF3 MP I belive my Q6600 is causing a bottleneck....what's the best way to check for a bottleneck rather then just having task manger running? I know how to log GPU usage via GPU-Z but how do I log CPU usage?

There will be a 7890?

Hmmmm I getting held back by something....Playing need for speed shift 2 on night map and get around 25FPS and GPU load is only around 55% to 65%....also saying that CPU load not seem crazy high....any ideas?
