Edit: I checked the fan, the fan isn't spinning at all it seems when it's supposed to be at 25%. so my guess is it only comes on when you push it up to 90% speed or something like that. So i'm guessing definitely RMA then? I took the card out checked it over couldn't see any issues. Fan just doesn't start up.
Hi guys,
I'll try keep it brief.
Basically this was happening only a handful of times like 2ish months ago and steadily it seems to happen EVERY time now.
What happens is, I go into a game and my fan doesn't kick in till the graphics card hits 90 degrees then it whacks on nearly full and pretty loud and then gradually slows down as card cools of course.
Now what is weird if I watch my graphics card in MSI afterburner I can see the temp of the card rising and the fan speed ramping up (According to MSI afterburner) but of course than fan isn't ramping up and like I said it'll wait till it hits 90 then only kick on.
Also I can't seem to adjust the fan any more in MSI afterburner either? I think the fan controller on the graphics card is going faulty. If I say turn the fan to 65% nothing happens... fan still just spins at default I assume (I assume it's spinning at all? I'll need to check). Only if I turn it to 90 does it delay for a second then turn on to 90% speed. But If i turn it down say to 70 it just turns all way back down. But still says fan should be at 70% on msi afterburner but you should be able to hear it spinning but because I can't I assume it's just spinning at it's lowest default speed.
Any ideas? I've tried reinstalling afterburner and also updating my drivers.
My card used to work fine with msi afterburner. Could turn it onto any % speed and i'd hear the fan spinning up. Now it just won't allow me to control it making me think this is a hardware problem and I may have to RMA the card? It's only roughly a year old I think. VTX3d 7870 tahiti.
Edit: Card just under a year old checked my order 24th of june last year.
Edit2: also when you adjust fan speed it's spose to speed up instantly far as I remember but now it delays for second or so then only goes up.
