7900 GS - What Alternative

Bought the Leadtek from OCuk which arrived today - for another system i am putting together and am curious to see what people regard as the current 100 - 150 king?

Loads of different options these days - and even the model names arent always reliable as some models which "should" be the same are different.

BTW my number 1 system is a 64 3800 @ 2.55g , my new system will be a x2 4200 - will i see much of a difference in games?

From new, I'd say the x1950 Pro. Nothing too shabby about the OCuk 7900 GS either, and a good purchase at the lower price point.

I wouldn't have thought you'd see a huge difference in games these days without a massive processor change (e.g. athlon XP to Core 2 Duo) or a graphics card change. A decent overclock on the 4400 could reap dividends...

I bought the 7900GS OCuK 512mb version and imo for the price its great, out the box overlclocked at 570+/1450, 37degrees idle/40degrees load, the uprated cooler with massive heat spread helps a lot. Plays bf2142 maxed out. For the money its good

Ok just over 3k (3dmark06)with my 7600 GT at stock(i could get that up to 3.3k with my oc), 3.7k with the GS 7900 at stock and 4.05k at 525/700

Overclock = 575 at stock(im gonna play it super safe though at 525), and 805 (1610) on the ram - again ive settled for 700 for super duper safety. In fairness i doubt if the card would run at anything like the maximum's quoted for any length of time without artifacts so i reckon thats a happy medium.

just ordered my second OC 7900gs 2 day will see how they do in SLI mode,

come on OCUK give me that card " hope to get it on monday"
