7900 xt and 5800x = 4k?

Hey,

I have a 7900xt and 5800x along with 32gb ram; currently it’s able to play everyrging at pretty much highest settings on 1440p.

I’ve been eyeing up a 32” 4k OLED monitor and was wondering whether my set up would be able to handle it, or whether a CPU upgrade would be needed?

I’m hoping not but if a 5800x3d or even 5700x3d would make the difference, then I could do that.

What do you reckon?

What about if I was to use up-scaling? Is that GPU or CPU based?

I got the 7900xt on the basis that it would do 1440p no problem so never really had to think about up-scaling, clocking etc.

Hopefully I’d plan on upgrading with the next generation AM6 CPUs and maybe 5090 / Radeon equivalent

FSR runs on the GPU, so if your 7900 XT is struggling with 4K it can offer you higher performance, but it would do nothing for a CPU bottleneck.
