7900 XTX adaptive sync with AW3420DW issues

Recently took ownership of a 7900 XTX from @LtMatt.
Card appears to be fine, displayed no issues when testing it etc, until I enabled Adaptive Sync in the Adrenaline software!

Upon launching Forza Horizon 5, I found that all non-video portions of the game ran at what RTSS claimed to be 400ms per frame, but I was perhaps seeing a frame every 2000ms, with inputs generally not responding.

Enabling vsync in game would occasionally correct the issue, until launching the game again, where switching vsync back off got the frames pumping again, with obnoxious tearing.

From a quick Google, I saw mentions of some Dell/Alienware monitors not working well with AMD cards, requiring tweaks using CRU to adjust the adaptive sync range.

I give this a go, and adjusted the range to 30-120, which my AW3420DW seems happy with, no more freeze-frame in Forza.

BUT... I then found that Chrome based browsers appeared to be flashing between two different colour ranges, with darks becoming bright, and brights becoming totally blown out. Kind of like HDR being fed to the non-HDR supporting monitor.

After putting the system to sleep for the night, I am today finding that everything appears to be functioning normally, with adaptive sync working between the 30-120 range, and Chrome colours aren't going crazy!

Where does the problem lie here? Is it due to my monitor not officially supporting adaptive sync? (It has a GSync module iirc, but Rtings found regular vrr worked absolutely fine on it)
Or is there some setting I am missing somewhere? Not had an AMD card for a while, and I've certainly not had one at the same time as an adaptive sync panel :)

1 games probably not enough to tell
Any issues in other games?
Or in graphics benchmarks like unigine?

As for the chrome issue
Wondering if that's windows playing up
Been getting similar when trying to play warthunder
Repeated turning hdr on and off eventually fixes it
Windows pretty much sucks with hdr

My monitor has no HDR support, and HDR settings do not appear in the windows or AMD display settings.
I have ran various 3DMark and Unigine benchmarks/stress tests, though when running them, I did not have adaptive sync turned on.

Have you installed monitor drivers. I had to do this for my LG. If you go into Monitor settings what is your maximum refresh rate.

Good shout! I shall install the drivers for my monitor! :)

Are you connected through Display Port?

EDIT: If it were me, yes, I'd have picked a FreeSync Premium monitor to pair with an AMD card and not a G-SYNC one. I've only ever owned AMD cards and never used a G-SYNC monitor with them and not had any issues with VRR, or Enhanced Sync, etc.

Yes, connected using DP. iirc my monitor supports adaptive sync through Display Port only. If this issue occurs more regularly (It hasn't popped up again yet!) I'll definitely consider a new monitor, though that won't come before I spend some time in the monitors board, trying to decide whether to go UW again, or 4K, or 4K with a huge panel!
I've had this monitor for a while now. I tried adaptive sync a while back when testing an RX 6600 I bought for a mate, and it worked fine.

I wanted to get an AMD card again as I'd like to try using Linux (Arch!) full time on my desktop as support for games appears to have taken massive strides since I used it on desktop last! <2018

There is no mention of free sync in the specs.
If you go into the AMD drivers in the display section what does it say.

FreeSync Range 1 to 120Hz reported by display. Though currently this says 30 to 120Hz after using CRU to edit the range. I saw another post regarding the AW3423DW titled "AW3423DW Adaptive Sync Issue?" on reddit, which appeared to have the same slow refresh issue in games, fixed by editing the range in CRU.

Based on a comment "i thought alienware would have fixed this by now… i have same issue on my aw2721d it only effects 6900xt’s. The gsync is messing with amds lfc implementation and causes lockups with the black screen flicker. The solution is too use CRU and modify the gsync range instead of 1-175hz up to 20-175hz. The last 20hz range i found is borked and causes framerate to drop until lockup. I was hoping i wouldnt have to do this for my aw3423dw but oh well." It does appear as though the gsync module and AMD LFC do get in the way of each other!

Under Display Freesync should be enabled:

Under Graphics there are more options I leave most of them off unless you specifically want them i.e. Super Resolution etc personally I leave framegen (AFMF) off as it requires vsysnc to be disabled which leads to its own problems. Leave Vsync on:

Where you have "AMD Freesync Pemium Pro" I have "Adaptive Sync Compatible", which is enabled :)

Wait for Vertical Refresh is "Off unless application specifies" at the moment, but only because it was one of the settings I tried tweaking while trying to fix this issue. I'll likely turn it back on again, I have been turning it on in games I've played so far.
As I've not had any more colour shifting in Chrome based browsers. Though I did need to create a game profile for Brave as adaptive sync was engaging when playing videos in full screen, making them look choppy. I could see the framerate all over the place on my monitors' FPS counter. From a quick google I am not the only one hah.
