With the 7800XT at around £450/470 and the 7900GRE at around £550, is it worth paying the extra £80/100?

Looking at the Powercolor Hellhound variant in particular due to low noise and no cool whine on any reviews.

Gaming would be Ultrawide, paired with 5800X3D.

Not looking at futureproofing, just best bang for buck now before I do a full new build at Christmas and pass this on to my son.

Thoughts/Opinions?

Not worth it IMO, its 10% faster with the same 16 GB VRam.

I have an RX 7800 XT, its a great card. the 7900 GRE is a better card but too expensive when compared with the 7800 XT.

With the 4070/7800 XT priced around £450, then purely from a price/perf they're both better value than the 4070 Super or 7900 GRE, but the extra grunt on the higher models can make a big difference if you're struggling hit playability at high resolutions, so it isn't a slam dunk if you can afford the extra. It obviously depends on the price too, since at e.g. £490 for the 7800 XT and £520 for the 7900 GRE, I'd take the GRE every time.

Well the 7800xt Hellhound is £470 (inc Starfield and Avatar). It would be £450 from overclockers, but they don’t have an eta for it!)

The 7900GRE Hellhound is £550…

So the prices are pretty much set.

And yes, sticking with the hellhound as it is pretty much silent on all the reviews.

Does the £450 Hellhound from OCUK come with those two games? if not you can make up the difference by selling the two games on the members market.

Maybe also phone to ask when OCUK are expecting Hellhound stock, the thing is it might be £450 because its out of stock, i've seen that before so it might go up £20 when it lands back in stock.

On the 7900 GRE, we aren't saying you shouldn't buy it, its a good card, we just don't think its worth that much more than the 7800 XT but if you have the money for it and you don't mind over spending a bit to secure one easily do it...

I did message Overclockers about the 7800, and they said it is out of stock with no ETA (but still available in pre order?)

So the alternative would be £470.

Right, they don't know... in that case i wouldn't pre-order it it could be weeks or more before you get it.

£470 is not bad, its worth that, with the two games for sure...

Overclockers now showing 4 games free… So waiting for the Hellhound becomes a potential… if I can still claim the games within AMD’s timescale. 2 weeks isn’t an issue to me though if it is actually coming!

Otherwise it is the Sapphire 7800XT pure for £470 or the Sapphire Nitro+ at £500… but that brings it within £50 of the 7900GRE.

7800 XT HellHound are due in tomorrow/Thursday and comes with 4 FREE games from AMD.

Sapphire 7800 XT is in stock NOW at £449 and ALSO includes 4 FREE games from AMD:

Whilst AMD has two game bundles overlapping for month of August now is a great time to buy at 7700/7800 XT whilst you get more free games as it ends in September.

Thanks for this. I did message the team earlier but got a different reply, so will order this now!

7800 Hellhound now ordered!

Will sell on my 2080ti. Only about a 25% upgrade in frame rates, but is worth it for the build when I pass it on to my son. It will certainly be quieter than the 2080!
