7900GS or X1800XT

x1800xt is comparable to the 7900gt I think, which is somewhat faster than the 7900gs.

I'm almost certain that the x1800xt is the faster card out of those two!
 
Yeah the x1800 XT is the faster card as the 7900 GS is a slightly faster 7800 GT, so it comes in behind the 7900 GT which the x1800 is also faster than. :)
 
Probably as its a decent card for the price, £130 is not to bad at all for a card thats slightly slower than a 7900 GT. :)

Although just seen the x1800 XT 256mb is on 'This Week Only' for only £148, so for £18 more id buy that while its at that price as thats a steal.

I don't know really tbh - but its like everything, there will always be something that is better (or better value for money) than its rival.

Some people may buy the 7900gs because they prefer Nvidia, some people may buy it out of ignorance, assuming that its a good buy.

there's nothing wrong with the 7900gs - but unless it can be found quite a bit cheaper than the x1800xt, then the x1800 is the better buy!
 
Thanks - i haven't started this to get into a Nvidia v ATI debate (in fact I've only ever had Nvidia cards before), but i want to buy a new card and want the best bang for my buck. So if the 1800XT is the fastest i'll get that one!
 
Waited too long to get the "this week only" price on the X1800XT, but did get a discount on the Hyundai ImageQuest N91W 19" So evened out!


Expect there to be improvement by some margin over my 7600gs and 17" CRT.

only got the stuff last night (after i ordered on Thursday early afternoon!

Too early to report, but everything working fine i think. No dead pixels and the card isn't as noisy as i was led to believe! (yet).

There's a thread on the monitors board for the N91W, i'll post more on that later in the week aswell!
