Im going to give this PC to my dauther and build a new one about 450 to 500 notes.
having been happy with AMD I wil get a AM2 dual6000+
MSI mb if crossfire will give better results
2 gig 2*1gig
and 2 ATI 2600tx cards cant get the money for a 2900 card
sould I stick with the 7900gs or go over to crossfire and get 2 2600xt cards?

Thanks

Well I'd say either get a single 2900XT for time being or stick with the 7900GS, as I believe they would perform better when anti-aliasing comes into play as the 2600XT suffers quite a performance hit when anti-aliasing is on. (Assuming 7900GS has 256bit memory interface here)

what about 2 Asus ATI Radeon X1950 Pro Crossfire or are the 2600xt better
than 2 of there's
But then i'm close to the price of a 2900xt

the Asus ATI Radeon X1950 Pro Crossfire @ a £105 OCUK *2 £210

I do like SLI but crossfire works with more games as SLI must have code in the game where crossfire does not reqiure this. As I was told.

Stretch the extra £30 and get a single 2900/8800gts 640...crossfire/sli<<<single card solution.

You aint close to the price of the 2900 if you get 2x x1950 pro's in Crossfire, unless you can get a 2900 for around £140, cheapest 2900 OcUK do is £234, thats £94 more expensive.

As i said before in another post, don't even contemplate buying the so called "mid-range" cards offered by nvidia and ATI. So of the DX10 gen cards, never buy anything that isn't 8800 (nvidia) or 2900. Any of the cards below those ones are complete cack, they get outperformed by last gen cards, they can barely handle DX9 games so there is no way they can handle DX10 games when the top end cards struggle with DX10.

Hi

I was thinking of one of these cards in the last few weeks when I upgraded from my HIS x800xl.

I decided to pick the 7900GS over the 2600XT and 8600GT/S as on current games it is faster and is about the same price.

My advice would be to stick with the 7900GSs and wait and see if better 'mid' range directx 10 cards come out and/or the 8800 series gets cheaper.

That happens to be what I will do just wait a few months and see what happens to the prices and the next gen card will knock to days top range cards down to second place.
