I cannot believe this

About a year ago I got a 7800gt and like most people it suffered from the 100% fan speed issue. I decided to not bother rma'ing and just got a zalman gpu cooler. This was grand but it got annyoing having to manually adjust the fan speed everytime I started to play a game.

So I decided to get a 7900gt and sell my old 7800gt. It arrived yesterday and to my disbilief the fan is stuck at 100% aswell!? I've tried using Rivatuner but no joy. I'm currently using the 91.31 drivers.

I've already contacted Overclockers telling them I want a refund but in the meantime has anyone got any ideas for getting the fan to work properly cos I would really like to keep this card if I can get the fan to work properly.

I have a 7900GT too and after months of searching, the rivatuner programmer posted on his forum that the gt has the fan speed fixed at 100% in hardware.

Absolutely mind boggling really.

I've got £250 worth of water cooling to sort out the problem of fan noise though :) Fitting this weekend hopefully.

It seems that the only option is to get one of the 3rd party fan coolers.

Best of luck

Expertool from the Gainward website lets me reduce my 6800's fan speed (no other apps do). Might be worth trying.

You don't need a Gainward card, by the way. Mine is an XFX.

I use a pair of Zalman VF900CUs with my 7900GTs and just leave them on full all of the time. Even with two I can hardly hear them. If I turn them down to minimum setting, I can barely hear them at all. The stock coolers are whiney anyway, so I'd replace them for that reason alone.

AFAIK virtually all 7900GT's have the fan running at 100%, with no fan speed control - it's not an issue that can be fixed, as the card has to have the circuitry to control the fan voltage - blame it on all the manufacturers who haven't bothered to implement fan speed control.
