my brother in laws 7900gt has dotted lines all over the screen and the odd BSOD... is this card truly dead or is there hope? p.s i know he could do with a new card but he is a poor student..

Yip its a goner.:(

It could be a heat problem. Clean the heat sink and point a desk fan at it, see if that makes any difference

Try dropping the clocks with the usual overclocking tool (ATiTools). There is always hope :D sadly experience sometimes lets us down...

i tried this card in my rig just incase it was a power issue and the same happened the sec i started it up..

Are you seeing bands down the screen ?

If its bands then some part of the memory system is borked

If its dots all over the place then it could be heat, if they are in straight lines then it borked

I would what make is it ? your lucky to have got this long out of it non of mine lasted more than a few months

If you are good with a soldering iron yes. But for mere mortals, it is time to reach for the plastic. "OcUK about that 4850 you had on this week only, I'd like one please..."

remember he is a student and has no plastic fantastic and that 4850 deal has just fell through his hands... lol. i hate being the bearer of bad news.. :(
