simple i have a 7900GTO @ GTX speeds but saw the 8800GTS for £299 will i see a big diffrence if i get one or should i just wait a bit longer till after crimbo as i'm in no rush, could get £200 for my GTO so it would only cost me £100. The only game i play is BF2 on my Dell 24" with a X2 4600+ @ 2.5GHz. :D

yes you will notice quite a large difference...also the 8-series GPU will support DX10 games while the 7-series is DX9

And what games are DX10? None.

notice how I said "WILL support" as in the future.

i only play Battlefield 2 ;)

Then if your 7900GTO performs satisfactorily then there's no need to upgrade...but at higher resolutions the 8800GTS will really shine over the 7900GTO

Do it m8.

I had this setup previously and its worth the upgrade just for the IQ improvement and it should be a lot faster. DX10 is a bonus. I can't comment on the GTS having never owned one but the GTX is in a different league.

Exactly, if your current card is performing then hold onto it untill you really do need to upgrade, by which time there will be a bigger choice in DX10 cards & maybe some other games you will want to play will have been released (& it might even utilize DX10)

Exactly, and a 7900GTO @ GTX speeds will cope with BF2 at 1600x1200 maxed out reaching the 100fps cap no problem. Cant see any reason for you to upgrade, sounds like the upgrade bug ;)

yeh you could be right there cant belive ive not jumped on the conroe bandwagen yet but x2 4600+ is still going strong :D

^^ I second that Willis. And when my X2 struggles i may have to overlock it to 2.8ghz, should be ok for a while yet!

I'm in exactly the same situation. I would say "don't do it" to myself but the only thing that will keep bugging me is that the 8800GTS will always be worth £100 more than the GTO which is why I kinda think that I should buy the GTS and have the performance now rather than sticking with the GTO for 4-5 months and still selling it and paying a ton differance on the GTS.

Still trying to talk myself out of it :(

Well depends if you have the cash this close to xmas, if you have then why not! I'm quite happy running my games on my current spec, otherwise i would do the same.

I say go for it i was wondering for a long time and after i went for it i would never go back to my prev card, easy worth the money check out something like X3 on it will blow you away.

plus it's christmas treat yourself, thats how i made myself feel better after spending the dosh :D

cheers.
