7900xtx now or wait for a 5080

Mainly play 4x strategy games at 4k but till be straight on gta6 if we ever see it


7900xtx seems to be on par apart from RT performance and coming in cheaper than a 5080 that is unobtainable it seems for the near future


Rest of my build is AM5 with 7950x and 32gb of ram

What’s the thinking folks? Not fussy about team red/green just team bang for buck

If buying new I would wait for the 9070XT to see how they price it.

If going AMD I'd wait at this point (for RDNA4), especially since the XTX is creeping up in price and down in availability.

^ This. If they price it at the expected $599-ish point... then it seems like it'll be a no brainer... But it's AMD and they LOVE to score own goals so they'll probably put it at $899 and shoot themselves in the foot (that then ricochets and takes out an eye or 2)

If you've still got your 3080, then given what you play, I'd say neither right now. Current 4X games with a 3080 at 4k are mostly fine (even Civ 7 probably won't be too bad), and GTA 6 will be Q4 2025 at best. By that point a 5080 Ti/Super will be around the corner; if not, then you've got all year to look at options, especially with current GPUs (incl. the 7900 XTX) being sold above RRP.

If you've sold your 3080 already then as dave28 and Tetras mentioned above, I'd wait for 9070 XT pricing before making any decisions.

Consoles will get GTA6 before us PC gamers get it! Be about 2 years before we see it. Stick to what you got card wise if just playing strategy games... unless your in dire need of that upgrade? 7900XTX is no slouch either and would last a few more years even if bought now.
