790i Experiences?

I'm currently running an Asus Striker II Extreme. This board is perfect. I've not done any overclocking on it yet but stability wise I've had no problems. Runs cool, gives great performance and has fantastic features and layout.

The only problem I've run into is that I couldn't get my FX 5200 PCI card to run properly, but that's not really a big deal I suppose. If you're thinking about a 790i motherboard I suppose you've got the money to get a PCIE card if you haven't already :)

Running an XFX 790i. Really happy with the board, got a Q6600 GO in in with 2Gigs of Corsair Cheap DDR3 RAM. It's a bit different in overclocking to my Gigabyte P35-DS3R, but I picked it up quickly enough. I've got a higher overclock on this compared to the Gigabyte as it seems to takes less volts to get the overclock. Lost my Tuniq Tower on the other board as I can't get the backplate off, so using an AC7. So, it's at 3.5 and prime stable (8 Hours plus) at 1.46250. I would easily hit 3.6 or higher with a Tuniq. Haven't really fiddled too much with the other stuff yet and a nw bios is due to be released any day now, so, see what options that opens up.

Aye, I've seen a few reports of people getting better overclocks on these boards. Apparently the voltage regulation is about as good as it gets.

Excellent board, though, right now you really do pay through the nose for it, and the fact you then have to buy DDR3 makes the price point even worse. So far as the board it's self goes disregarding price, its about the best I have had experience with. Runs stable, very overclockable and it just happens to look bad ass. It alots for much more fine tunning than other boards (e.g, allowing overclocking of individual RAM slots, rather than the whole thing).

If money isnt an issue then it is an excellent buy :)

Yeah, followed the thread in xtremesystems. I've checked and had no issues, but it seems to be when pushing the RAM, which I'm not really doing as I'm running unlinked. By the time I get RAM that I will run linked, I'm sure any issues will be solved, however, from what I've seem it seems to be a problem more with the Asus, then the EVGA. Not seen many reports on the XFX, even though EVGA and XFX are reference boards. I went for the XFX because I heard it was quieter and it was also cheaper when I bought it.

Just finished plumbing this in last night:

Q6600 @3.6GHz

Asus Striker 2 Extreme (Nvidia 790i Ultra)
Gainward Bliss 8800GTX
Creative X-Fi
2 X WD Raptor RAID 0
Antec Quattro 850W

So Far so good - more tinkering tonight :D

Seems much quicker at stock speeds than my last board (Asus Striker Extreme - 680i SLi) and the BIOS is an overclocker's dream.

MUCH better laid out than the original Striker - Asus have moved the 24 pin power connector away from the IDE port - altogether, easier to put together.

Most importantly it seems to run much cooler.

Oh, and the Fusion water block is a doddle and comes bundled with lots of clips and hose adaptors - exactly the kind of useful extras you'd expect from any flagship product.

AND :D the LCD poster screen is now a portable addition rather than the old Striker having it in the I/0 shield :D
