I have a friend who has a vtx 7950@1175mhz and hes leaving the country,
he says I can have this card for free if I want so I'm wondering if it will
mate up with my vtx 7970's for trifire? (or do the extra shaders prevent it?)

Also if it's possible, my rampage IV says with 3 cards its x16/x8/x16, that wont hurt anything will it?

thanks

You'll be fine on all counts. Performance of the more powerful cards will not be reduced by the slowest GPU, and PCIe3 x8 is more than enough bandwidth for everything except intense GPU compute.

I believe that is in-correct!

The cards will down-clock to match those of the slowest card.

A 7970 clock for clock is (5%?) faster than a 7950, logic would suggest (i'm guessing here, someone will know more i'm sure...) that it would therefore yield performance of " 7950 tri-fire? "

IMO - Sell his 7950, add £70 and buy a 7970 :D

:o Don't disgrace yourself dude. If you want to question the AMD rep at least make sure you're right. :D

Crossfire cards can run at different clock speeds. ;)

It is technically the same chip, it would work fine.

I believe the down clocking only applies to RAM of different speeds, the faster gets lowered to the slowest.

will not be reduced by the slowest GPU is correct , I have a 7950 & 7970 crossfire
memory & cores speeds stay the same & don't down clock.
