Just received my HIS HD 7950 and realised it doesn't have dual monitor setup like my 6970.

Is it possible to have one on HDMI and one on using the normal connection? :(

By normal I assume you mean DVI.

Running one monitor from DVI and one from HDMI is fine as long as we're talking about something like 60Hz 1080p monitors.

You may need to adjust the underscan/overscan setting in the Catalyst Control Centre for the HDMI connected monitor to get the image to "fit" properly.

Well I just got a 27" at 2560x1440 and the other is a 1920x1080. Yes DVI sorry.

I am just running the 27" at mo via HDMI but I can't seem to up the resolution from 1920x1080

If one monitor is 2560x1440 you'll need to run that with dual link DVI or DisplayPort to support the resolution.

You should run the 1920x1080 monitor from the HDMI.

I just bought the Gigabyte 7970 and it only came with 1 x Dual DVi also it had 2 x Mini Display Ports and 1 X HDMi.
I have 2 monitors, one runs @120Hz and the other 60Hz, I needed another DVi for my 2nd monitor as this is all it supports so I also ordered this from OCUK to come with my card.....
YOUR BASKET
1 x OcUK Value Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (HDMINIDP-DVI) £8.99
Total : £8.99 (includes shipping : FREE).

Works a treat.

You're welcome.

All set up properly now?

In the screen you were just in you can move the image of the lower resolution monitor up and down to align it where you want with the higher resolution monitor.

Yes thanks! Although sound has suddenly stopped working!

Also, the quality of the 24" using HDMI now as oposed to DVI seem different.

Is the correct audio device selected?

Right click the volume icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.

Hmm.....

They're both digital so you shouldn't really see a difference.

It's definitely running at 1920x1080?

Perhaps you need to have a play around with some of the options in the Catalyst Control Panel.

there will be a slight difference as they are 2 different connections and two different monitors, what is the difference ones brighter or one is clearer or just "feels" different

Got the sound working, had to set the speakers as default audio output for some reason.

Feels different, but it looks darker and text isn't as sharp.

The thing is, if I decided to purchase another 27" to go side by side I would notice a difference in picture using HDMi and DVI?

There are options in the CCC and probably on your monitor where you can adjust things like brightness more to your liking.

I don't believe HDMI will support the 2560x1440 resolution.

Yea may be much of it is my imagination as the new monitor is so much sharper etc. Asus PB278Q

I assume your HD 7950 has 2 mini DisplayPorts?

The Asus has a DisplayPort connector so you could connect it with a miniDP to DP cable: OcUK Value Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort Cable 2m

You could then go back to connecting your other monitor with DVI.

If you wanted a second Asus PB278Q you could connect that using miniDP to DP or dual link DVI.

It may even work with HDMI (as it's v1.4) but you don't seem keen on HDMI.

Thanks for that. Not sure about the mini display ports, I will check when I get home from work.

Yea I have my Asus connected via DVI and the old Samsung 24" (1080p) connected via HDMI but I am really not happy with the picture on the Samsung. Just looks very dark, blurry and the picture isn't taking up the full screen even though resolution says 1920x1080.

This is the 7950 I have.

I really can't complain about the new Asus, it will take a bit of getting used to but the sharpness is great. I will need to experiment with the colour settings though as it may be slightly dark.

You need to adjust the underscan/overscan slider in the CCC until the image fills the screen.

Your HD 7950 has 2 miniDPs (the small connectors on the left of the image) so you can use the cable I linked earlier to connect the Asus monitor to one of them and that'll free up the DVI connector for the other monitor if you prefer to use that instead of HDMI.
