Got a couple of MSI Twin Frozr 3 7950's in crossfire and they're getting hot and loud.

Problem is that while my Lian Li case is super sexy in the looks department it's thermal performance leaves much to be desired.

This is how it is at the moment...

I have currently...

2x 120mm fans in the front blowing air into the case

1x 120mm rear exhaust fan

1x 120mm fan in the silver VGA box sucking the hot air away from the cards and out the back of the case.

They still run hot though!! I have considered a new case with better air flow options and I've considered a couple of these..

No hotlinking images!

But they're £110 a pop!!

What you guys reckon is my best option?

THe problem area will be the vrm section. Currently you have nothing there exhausting that heat. Can you move that LianLi thing over a bit? If not you need to invest in some side exhaust fans and have them suck that vrm gpu heat away.

Spin the fan round next to the gfx so its aiming at them. Technically not removing heat from the case but will be supplying them fresh air. Your cards dump the heat back in the case anyway so meh worth a try. Might increase system temps a few degrees but will probably have the desired effect your looking for. For a couple mins work not a couple hundred quid

An aftermarket cooler wouldn't really help then... Knew I should have bought a pair of those 4Gb GTX670's instead as they vented air outside the case.

Could always sell these and get a pair I suppose

+1

( Once your done now - all you ,hopefully, will need come the next up-grade is new block(s) :) )

Been there and done that with water cooling and it's not an option as..

1. The amount it would cost I would sooner spend it on a new monitor or faster parts.
2. This case isn't built for water cooling so on top of the cost of a full lop I would have to spend money on another case too.

I wouldnt go through the rigmorale of selling cards and swapping etc just yet and wouldnt really solve the problem that your case doesnt have the best ventilation. Try abit of fan swapping first, can you fit a 120/140mm fan behind the cards aiming at them, then keep the box one as an exhaust? Will get some extra air cirulating and still dump some of the hot air out the way

Overall I believe that if you want sli or crossfire then to keep both heat and noise at an acceptable level you do need water cooling - partic. if the gpu(s) vent most , if not all, their heat into the case.

I feel your pain but have my doubts that switching to 670's will be that much better :(

Probably better upgrading to a more powerful single slot card ?
