Hi,

So I just finished uni and with some left over money I'm thinking of treating myself to a new graphics card upgrade.

I currently use a 1gb 6870, it runs fine in all games however I miss 4xmsaa etc and skyrim modded runs at around 20fps. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 7950 since it seems amazing value for money once overclocked but a little concerned I'm spending too much on a card for my resolution. On the other hand it means I'm more "future proof" and can maybe expect to run BF4 with some level of msaa when it releases as well as enjoy modded skyrim with the higher VRAM and bandwidth.

Just wanted your opinion on this upgrade, worth it? I'm not looking to upgrade my monitor right now

Oh is that the 7870LE/XT? Specifications suggests it but it's not actually in the name

Just looked up the name and looks like it is indeed the 7870XT, was looking all over for this model as I heard it was just a 7950 with limited cores and memory, guess that will be fine for my resolution. Can I ask what temps you get with the 1200mhz oc?

The cash saved on getting the 7870XT will allow me to also upgrade to an SSD, so think I'll be going with that, thanks :) will order them on monday

Would like to hear about your temps though with overclock, I've heard the VTX3D can get a bit noisy during gaming

Try to look after a Gigabyte WF3 7950 as well, may be a little bit more expensive, but should have a better build quality.

Don't worry, a 7950 would be perfect for you, 'cause there are games out there that even on low res. high end cards can't handle at top IQ and 60FPS.
