At the moment my fan speed changes when i am browsing or playing games. It's abit noisey when it's going full pelt so i would prefer it if i could adjust the fan to a constant quiet level. Is my only option to buy a Zalman fan?

Umm not really, it's generally running at the rpm required to keep the card cool.

Altering that is something of a kin to poking fingers into food blenders imo.

Best alternative is an aftermarket cooler, generally one with larger fan for slower rpm and a bigger heatsink for more efficient cooling.

Arctic Cooling makes decent products for a good price but I am unsure if the Artic Cooling Accelero X1 will fit the 7950 GT. Otherwise I think the only option is Zalman which is quite a bit more expensive.

I like the idea of Zalman as i had one for my previous card and it had only two fan speeds that remained constant. On full pelt i imagine it being less noisy then this stock fan. It's a shame i can't alter the fan speed through software in the meantime :(

Perhaps the question to ask is why is the fan on your 7950 going up and down? Is it because you case is too hot?

I'd make sure you have a good exhaust fan running, taking the hot air out of your case...

Try installing Rivatuner, it will allow you to manually set the RPM speed of your card under intensive (3d games) apps. Watch those temps though (you can monitor those in rivatuner too!)
