Hey been looking around and i'm either going to get a 8800gts 640mb for 240 or i could get a 7950 GX2 for 150. Now looking at benchmarks these 2 seem pretty close and i don't really care about Directx 10 games.

So would you recommend this card if i could get for 150 as the extra 90 would come in handy elsewhere.

GX2 is crap, only works on certain motherboards, and games that don't utilise SLi will have your GX2 running as a single 7900 GT, 640mb GTS all the way id say, much better card. :)

oh rite, i don't know why but i always seem to go for the older generation graphic cards even when i can afford the latest.

I go for the gx2 for £150 thats a bargain, realy fast cards, and im sure they will work on most motherboards now, i have a review in a magazine will try to find it.

150quid could get you an X1900XT 512MB which would be allot better, as said the GX2 aint worth it, it uses SLi for both GPU's to work, so games that dont work with SLi its jsut a 7900GT and when it's in SLi it's not taking advantage of both cores.

For 150 quid you could get an 8800GTS 320Mb and thats sure going to whoop a 7950GX2 :)

Oh right Might as well go for the 8800gts 640 if im going to be spending big sums of money on a new pc.

A gx2 more than hold's it's own with a 320mb gts, most of the time it's a lot quicker.
so it's only the 640mb thats worth considering and there's not a lot of differance between the two, i'd keep the £90 and get the gx2 or go all out and get 8800ultra. not long ago i bought a x1950xt 512mb for 140 and i'm very happy with it, but i would have defo had a gx2 £150 instead.

Thinking about it i wouldn't get the ultra at all, looks like they struggle with dx10 games.

8800 GTS > 7950 GX2

£150 is a good price.

I had the exact same card....Infact i had the original 1.5foot version! :p

Only thing i would suggest is use XP!
I got rid of this card because i got fed up waiting on drivers from Nvidia for it to work in Vista, remember it is an SLI package after all.

In XP it was great but at the end of the day i get better performance from a single 8800GTX in Vista. Because i dont follow it any more i dont know if the drivers work properly yet for the 7950gx2.

If you fancy it, go for it but look here first....

Its not worth buying one of those now at all, an 8800GTS performs better in allot of games and its DX10 compatible, 7950GX2 is old tech, not worth it, only performs better in SLi enabled games, not all of them tho, but its litrally 2 7900GT's stuck together.

GX2 is a great card and for DX9 games it gives very good performance...

It will run on most motherboard but not all...

also if games don't support SLI it will run at the performance of a Mobile 7900GTX not a 7900GT... (ok theres only an extra 50MHz in it)

Almost all cards will overclock by atleast 20% out the box on stock cooling no hassle.

If the games you play work well in AFR mode you will generally see a double performance boost... however if they don't work well with AFR or only work with SFR you will see more like a 1.2 to 1.6x boost over a single card...

Overall you'd be better off with the 8800GTS if only for the ability to run FSAA and HDR at the same time (and not have to worry about a game supporting SLI or not) also the GX2 isn't very well supported under vista atm.

I'm still running a GX2 atm and I'm very impressed with how well it handles lost planet and etqw, etc. often doing better than the 8800GTS in DX9 mode - tho obviously no DX10 mode. I wish people would be a little more friendly towards the card it doesn't deserve the negativity some people give it.

The GX2 was a great card but it can't compete with the 8xxx range of cards. Its still worthy of playing dx9 games and there isn't much out atm that can really strain it too much. I would however go for a dx10 card now if we are talking £150+

I'll second that, pure waste of money 150 quid is for a DX9 card.

C'mon guys. A 7950GX2 - you're having a laugh????????. They are worthless in comparison to a X1900 never mind an 8800 PMSL.

No AA & HDR, Worse image quality, Only being able to use the 2 cards in SLi compatible games. Higher heat output, less stable, more power draw.

Maybe I am being a little harsh but you all have to admit the 7 series is worth staying clear from?. 8800GTS/GTX , X2900 then X19xx Series is my opinion.
