7950 lovin and OC's thread

MSI afterburner initially didn't allow me to clock very high either. I then restarted the pc a few times and the overclock range suddenly increased, I have no idea how

I had to edit the config files in order to be able to clock more. It seems a bit stupid when you're far more likely to fry your card with too much voltage and you can enable voltage control in the settings with a mouse click :p

You have to drop those two driver files into system32 and syswow IIRC to get the higher clocks.

What is ASIC quality? Mine's 75.9%, whatever that means.

I also think that on the current drivers, the cards limit in Heaven is around 2050. I can't get mine above 2020 ish, well, not without increasing V a lot higher, but as above, it's past the point of diminishing returns!

MMmm says not supported on my card lol

Haa was tring to read Intel mines at 73% at OC 1005/1400 that good?? lol

What about this, I've just installed an i5 3570K at stock, did another run.

Puts me 12th overall in the league table.:) and is the highest scoring 7950 I think.

Just did a run at 1225/1450 at 1.24v. Got 2056 points but had a few artifacts towards the end, gpu hit 80 'C on 100% fan, oops. Maybe my cooler isn't mounted very well but think I'm temp limited at this point until I fit my antec. Wonder if the ivy bridge helped piemans score at all?

I think I've found the max of the card:

1255 core/ 6000 memory/ 1.315v/ fan speed 100% cpu @ 4.2ghz

I'm not going to try higher as I think more voltage makes no difference and quite frankly I baulked a bit at putting over 1.3v through the card

Lol, nice effort. How did you get more than 1.3v through the card? Afterburner only goes up to 1.3v. I may need it when I water cool, thanks.

When I installed me 3570K yesterday, I had to reinstal some drivers and AB had defaulted to the low level clocks again, so I loaded up Trix and used that, works a treat too, voltage goes way beyond 1.3v

I seem to be stable on 1100Mhz Core, 1600Mhz Memory on 1137mV which seems pretty good for VTX3D HD 7950 =D
I'm going to have a quick play with 1200Mhz core, see if 1250mV will work if i'm a lucky one.
Edit: its close, took slight more juice on 1200Mhz to avoid artifacting. I'll stick with 1100Mhz.

Hmmm don't think trixx gave me voltage control, will have to reinstall and try again tonight. Was it the latest version? Thanks.

I don't get any voltage control with version 4.3, only the power control settings. I've not tried it myself but I think 4.1 will let you increase the voltage from what I've seen from screenshots.

Well I am very happy with my 7950. I have the VtX3D X-Edition, coupled with a 3570K and so far so good. Stock results are good but overclocking.. so far i'm at 1200/1600@1175mV equating to 2101 Heaven 3.0. Temps are bit up due to the warm weather, fan profile on auto keeps temps under 77oC@65% speed. Seems that my voltage is a bit lower than others, I think I have a keeper :D

Interestingly enough I have been seeing jumps of 71 in score (from 1000-1200) with every 50Mhz increment on core so far. If this pattern stays true and I try a 1250 run which should be achievable seeing i'm not even at 1.2v yet, I would be at 2172!

Boo: Can't get 1250 stable even at 1250mV, And I don't wanna go higher. 24/7 1100@1075mV/1600 seems like a good place.

1250 core on mine needs at least 1.3v
