7950 problem

i know it's a lot to read but please bear with it because i need some advice

I have been running a evga 7950 gtx for about two months now. everything was great untill one day i turned on my pc to find a black screen where windows should be. i restarted in safe mode uninstalled my graphics driver and restarted. everything normal reinstalled my graphics driver and again got a black screen after restart. I have tried every available driver including the one included with the card. eventualy started working again...... anyone got any ideas why it would just stop working... i've checked power, ventilation and other components and i'm sure it's the card... to top that when i reinstalled windows recently it crashed out in the post screen part way through instaling and gave me lots of coloured fragments including a purple smiley face.

Also i'm now running vista rc1 during install it ajusts the resolution and computer blue screens... used another graphics card it installed fine... changed cards back vista installed it's own graphics drivers... blue screen on restart... started in safe mode installed nvidia vista drivers... all is ok for now.

please help this is driving me mad!!!

First off for a lot of people the 7950GX2 won't install with Vista RC1. So that's not related to the other problem.

Purple smiley face? Are you sure the PSU is ok, how do you know it's not failing?

thanks for the note regarding vista... i have it working on vista now but as i said i cheated and installed with another card.

with regard to the psu my old 7800 card works fine, and being a tagan i have 4 gpu conectors and i get the same result which ever i use... i'm at a loss... i've never had so many problems and they all started with the gigabyte motherboard!!!

as for the smiley face the post stopped just after boot from cd... about 8 coloured squares appered on the black and white screen and one was a purple rectangle with a black smily face in it... all the other squares had symbols in them ?'s and the like. just fragments i think... it continued to do this every time i restarted... lol
